In my heart, there is a bird
An eagle, a falcon that soars
She's wild and strong,
And nothing can tame her
Yet, hold out the seed
In your hopeful palm
She'll live with a foot in two worlds
Returning to your hand at dawn
Escaping to the air at night
This seed a treasure forbidden
That gives her guilty pleasure
A haven and safety and rest
No longer does she hunt to survive
Each time she returns, you cage her
In hopes that one day she will never leave
Each day she stays longer
Yet her heart grows more frightened
In it she sees the wild and trees
The air, the sky, the clouds
She cannot stay where her heart is not
She loves you, but do you love her?
It's the prime of her life
Her wings long to stretch
Soar and hunt again
Truly her heart is Wild, but Tame is claiming it
Set her free while you can
Each day that passes by
It poisons her thoughts and weighs her down
So she cannot take flight
Some day she will be tame
Is that what you want?
Her spirit will no longer be free
The light in her eyes will fade
Do not cry to many tears
Some day she may return
When the wild has finally burst from her chest
She'll love you again, as she always has
For the moment, let her free
