I walk inside to see you sitting there.
Your tail begins to flick from side to side.
And nothing can break your expectant stare,
A gaze from which a mouse would want to hide.
But I begin to run to you and hold
Your soft and furry body to my chest
And from my cheek your whiskers brush the cold.
The sun does not compare; you warm me best.
And when, too soon, it's time to say goodbye,
You follow as I step up to the door.
A single tear suspended in your eye,
Your body slumps in sorrow on the floor.
I stretch my hand to stroke your silky fur,
And one last time I feel your rumbling purr.

Pictures
Pictures show the love we felt
We see through the haze of what has been
We see John's old back-scratcher
The one he kept on that dusty old shelf
There's Sue's delicious apple pie
We smell the aroma once more
Little Tim is on the tractor
Look at his pudgy hands wave
Across the yard's a tire swing
It sways softly in the breeze
There's Aunt May's flower bed
She hated when we played gold miners
Charlie's got cake smeared on his face
That was his 3rd birthday
Lilly's beautiful face is smiling here
Next to strapping Bill, her husband
Dill's wearing a dark gray suit in this one
Preparing to meet his girlfriend
Silly Jimmy is blushing here
He got Mom's pudding on his jacket
Look there, it's me
I was so young and carefree
How did that sweet little voice
Turn into a grown-up like me?

Child's Lullaby
The stars in the sky
Pray to the heavens
Bright lights in the sky
Swirling mass of beauty
Raining down on earth
Bringing peace and joy
Pray to the stars
Pray to the heavens
Bright lights in the sky
Swirling mass of beauty
Raining down on earth
Bringing peace and joy
Pray to the stars

Wrapped in My Arms
The storm has come
It strikes and thunders and roars
I'll hold you safe in my arms.
Your body is cold
It shakes and shivers and fears
You're still safe in my arms.
The rain arrives
It pours and trickles and splats
I'll never let you go.
The storm passes
You drift and cuddle and sleep
You'll always be in my arms.
It strikes and thunders and roars
I'll hold you safe in my arms.
Your body is cold
It shakes and shivers and fears
You're still safe in my arms.
The rain arrives
It pours and trickles and splats
I'll never let you go.
The storm passes
You drift and cuddle and sleep
You'll always be in my arms.
