I walk inside to see you sitting there.
Your tail begins to flick from side to side.
And nothing can break your expectant stare,
A gaze from which a mouse would want to hide.
But I begin to run to you and hold
Your soft and furry body to my chest
And from my cheek your whiskers brush the cold.
The  sun does not compare; you warm me best.
And when, too soon, it's time to say goodbye,
You follow as I step up to the door.
A single tear suspended in your eye,
Your body slumps in sorrow on the floor.
